Why did ExpressionMed® launch a press-on nails brand? We're here to give you the scoop on Just BeCause™ - our exciting new line of non tape products that'll let you have fun, be seamlessly styled, and provide a way for you to give back to the diabetic community.
The brand, Just BeCause by ExpressionMed, is a way for you to experience that feel-good matching aesthetic, just because! You don’t need a reason to wear your favorite clothes, decorate your devices, or match your nails to your CGM. Self-expression is something you do for your own joy and happiness!
The Buy-One-Give-Five Program:
Our supporter tape project last year opened our eyes to a way in which we could foster community support and understanding of diabetic device wearers. We learned that visually wearing device tapes enabled non-device wearers to ask educated questions and visually show their support for diabetics who rely on these devices.
Yet, there was a small flaw in our plan—non-device wearers didn't have use for the tapes, and many asked if they could send them to diabetic families and individuals instead of wearing them. We loved this idea. With our new brand, we've come up with a solution that is the best of both worlds. Supporters can now express their support through products that fit seamlessly into their lives and provide multiple tapes to diabetic families and individuals who might not have access.
To make this process even smoother, we've set-up a buy-one-give-five program. For every Just BeCause product you buy, we'll send 5 tapes to diabetes summer camps, children's endocrinology clinics, and programs in underserved communities. It's a fantastic way to buy products you'll use (with or without a device) and provide long-wear, comfortable adhesives to those who truly need them. How amazing is that?
Through this brand, we are excited to not only offer a new way for device wearers to express their unique style but also create a visual and physical way for non-device wearers to show their support throughout the year.
Every November, during National Diabetes Awareness Month, we build something to expand our mission to offer more expression and choice for people living with diabetes. This year, we’re fulfilling this mission through the launch of our new brand.
For years, we've been receiving fantastic customer photos of perfectly matching nails and tape designs. These photos? They screamed confidence and style, giving off that fab "I've got it together" vibe that comes with nailing your look. 😄
The inspiration for Just BeCause Nails came from stories like Fidelina's. When her nail artist moved away, Fidelina missed the chance to coordinate her nails with her device tape. That made us think, "What if everyone had the option for their nails to match their device tape?"
Featuring 8 of our top designs, our press-on nails are incredibly easy to apply, taking less than 15 minutes. They're designed for reusability, lasting up to 5-7 days, and can be reapplied multiple times. And the best part? They're non-toxic and gentle on your nails, just like our device tapes.
The Just BeCause Nails kit includes 24 nails in 10 inclusive sizes, nail glue, a double-sided nail file, a cuticle stick, and an alcohol pad. It's everything you need for a salon-quality manicure in the comfort of your home.
With every purchase of Just BeCause Nails, you're also giving back to the diabetes community. During National Diabetes Awareness Month (NDAM), we're going the extra mile by giving 5 tapes for every purchase to organizations that support the diabetic community, with a priority for youth camps and pediatric clinics.
Make sure to tag us in your matching nails. Let's share the joy of matching and giving back together. 💅💖😊

Running a half marathon has been on my bucket list for a long time, but thinking about running 13.1 miles straight while considering my blood sugars always held me back. I was worried that I would have a hard time keeping them in a normal range for that long without going dangerously low and having to stop. But, I was set on accomplishing this, so I needed a little bit of help.
I signed on to work with a registered dietician and diabetes educator with Your Diabetes Insider. Not only do they work with people on managing their blood sugars and lower their A1C, but they also help people with diabetes lose weight and accomplish athletic goals like running a half marathon. Ben Tzeel, my personal dietician, helped me right away to figure out what I needed to do in order to maintain good blood sugars while increasing my weekly running mileage.
Insulin On Board
The first thing I learned to consider was insulin on board. I use the Tandem/Dexcom G6 Control IQ system for my diabetes management. Because I like to run first thing in the morning, insulin on board wasn’t always something I considered. Sometimes if the mileage is short enough and my BG is over about 110 mg/dL, I’ll run without eating any food beforehand. However, as the mileage went up, it wasn’t necessarily responsible to run without having any food in my system.
Based on advice from Ben, I would eat between 15 and 20 grams of carbs about 15-20 minutes before my run. I would take insulin for about half the carbs I was eating. This would prevent me from spiking in the beginning of the run and keep me fueled without causing a low blood sugar. Most of the time with this method, my blood sugars would stay very steady throughout the entirety of the run.
If I wanted to run at a different time of day than the morning, I needed to take a look at how much insulin I had active before heading out. If there was any insulin on board before I headed out for a run, I was likely to go low, so I had to make sure to correct with a little bit of carbs beforehand.
Pre-Bolusing
You’ve heard it from every doctor, nurse, endocrinologist, and diabetes educator out there: “Take your insulin 15 minutes before you eat!” For 16 years, I never listened. I didn’t care. I wouldn’t take my insulin until right before I ate, or even as I was eating, and I would inevitably spike right after the carbs hit my system.
After I started working with Ben, I started pre-bolusing, not thinking it was going to help. Let’s just say, all those doctors, nurses, etc. knew what they were talking about. My post meal spikes became few and far between, and I was able to keep my BG in range for several hours after a meal. What does this have to do with half marathon training you ask? Everything! Having good BG management throughout the day means not only do I feel better during the day, but I sleep better at night, and therefore have way better runs in the morning.
During Run Fuel
Most avid runners will recommend different types of gels and chews for 30-40 minutes into your run to keep your energy up. Unfortunately, most of these products have a ton of sugar in them. If I ate them on the run, it would be fine at first. But, within 15 minutes of finishing the run, my BG would spike to 300 or more! I then decided to start using UCAN Edge Gels. Ben highly recommended them, and they’re sugar free! They give me the energy I need to finish a long run strong without affecting my blood sugars too much.
Post Run
After a run, the last thing I want to do is eat. I used to finish a run and then not eat for several hours after. I would then be exhausted the rest of the day, feeling nauseous, and I wouldn’t be able to do anything else the rest of the day.
One thing Ben taught me was to replenish my electrolytes and get a good protein source in as soon as I finished a run. I started having a Gatorade Zero right when I got home, and I ate a protein bar before I hopped in the shower. I also prepared for long runs by drinking Bodyarmour Lyte the days leading up to the run. This helped me not get nauseous and allowed me to do a whole day of weekend activities after running 8, 9, or even 10 miles that morning.
Technology
The Dexcom G6 has been a game changer when it comes to running with Type 1. Not having to stop and prick my finger in order to check my BG in the middle of a run is huge. Unfortunately, the adhesive doesn’t always want to stay on through a sweaty workout. I’ve found that the only tape to keep it secure for the full 10 days is ExpressionMed! They come in skin tone (my favorite) plus some really fun designs (Someone has even complimented my Dexcom as a "cool tattoo").
I also utilize an apple watch while I run. Not only does it track my distance and time; I’m also able to check my blood sugar on it as well. This makes it so that my phone can stay safely tucked away in my runners belt throughout the whole run.
Final thoughts
After putting in the work and training for several months, I was able to complete the Grand Tetons Half Marathon in June 2023! I attribute my success to Ben with Your Diabetes Insider being so available to me throughout the process. Not only did he help me with my BG management, but he was a great resource on nutrition and fueling my body properly for running long distances. I also want to thank ExpressionMed tape for making such an awesome product. Running long distances means sweating for a long period of time, and ExpressionMed tape is the only tape I’ve found to prevent my Dexcom from falling off before it’s time.

Your skin is as unique as you are, and finding the perfect products for your CGM and pump site routine can be a journey 😅. Everyone has varying needs and preferences when it comes to the application, removal, and maintenance of CGM and pump sites. While what works for some may not work for everyone, rest assured that with a little experimentation, you'll discover the perfect mix that suits you best.
In this article, we'll explore the benefits of Skin Tac and when to add it to your site routine to ensure maximum site longevity.
To note: If you are new to ExpressionMed tapes, many of our users experience longer wear times without adhesive barriers like Skin Tac. Make sure to follow our recommended steps, without Skin Tac, before determining your Skin Tac needs.
Skin Tac is a popular adhesive barrier solution that can be a game-changer in your site change and management routine. If you’re experiencing tape lifting or need to troubleshoot a wonky application, Skin Tac might be exactly what you need. With Skin Tac, you can ensure your device or tape stays securely in place, providing you with peace of mind throughout the day.
When it comes to extended wear, ExpressionMed tapes last 11-14 days on average, with some users even reporting wear times of 21 days or more, following the recommended application and care instructions. However, situations may arise where you need additional support to maintain optimal adhesion, such as tape lifting, or water interference from your favorite summer activity. This is where Skin Tac can come into play.
Many users have incorporated Skin Tac into their routines to enhance tape adhesion. Before applying your device or site, Skin Tac can be used as a pre-application step to create an ideal surface for maximum adhesion. By using Skin Tac, you can create a barrier that ensures your tape adheres securely, even during physical activities or in challenging environments.
“Summertime is such a busy, and sweaty time for us. We add Skin Tac during the hot months for a little extra security of our OmniPods to make sure our summer fun isn’t interrupted. ” shares Tracy V.
If you're using a device that requires tape or overpatches for secure attachment, Skin Tac can make a significant difference. Applying Skin Tac before attaching the tape can provide an extra layer of security, reducing the risk of tape lifting or premature detachment. The adhesive properties of Skin Tac help create a stronger bond between your skin and the tape, ensuring a longer-lasting and more reliable application.
We've all experienced tape lifting at some point. Perhaps we applied the tape in a hurry, leaving ridges for sweat, water and debris to collect. Or maybe we needed to change the site quickly and engaged in physical or water activities before the adhesive had time to cure properly. Skin Tac can come to the rescue in such situations. Its quick-drying formula creates a strong and durable bond, preventing tape lifting and keeping your site secure.
💡When you spot lifting, clean and dry the area beneath the lifted edge of your tape or site. Apply a small amount of Skin Tac–a little goes a long way–and let it dry for a few seconds before pressing down firmly on your tape. Hold for a moment to let the two cure together, and you’re good to go!
If you’re considering using adhesive barriers like Skin Tac to address the Dexcom Rash and other uncomfortable skin reactions caused by device adhesives, we suggest exploring our range of underpatches. These underpatches are specifically designed to provide a protective barrier between your skin and the device, reducing the risk of skin irritation and ensuring a comfortable experience. You can find more information and product options on our website's product pages.
Finding the perfect CGM and pump site routine can be a process of trial and error. Skin Tac offers an effective solution to address tape lifting issues, providing a secure and long-lasting application for your devices and tapes. By incorporating Skin Tac into your regimen, you can enjoy the confidence of knowing that your site will stay in place, even during your most active days.April 18, 2023
If you have non-insulin dependent Type 2 Diabetes and are on Medicare, good news! Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs) coverage has expanded. Read on to find out what you need to know and how to get started.
A: Medicare policies now include both insulin treated and non-insulin treated diabetes patients who have experienced at least one level 3 hypoglycemic event or recurrent level 2 hypoglycemic events that prompted their doctor to change their care plan. The criteria language for insulin and hypoglycemia no longer differentiates between Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, making it easier for physicians to prescribe CGMs.
Click here to check which Medicare plans are available in your state,
Click here to find a clinician who accepts Medicare near you.
A: Using Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs) can provide several benefits for Type 2 Diabetes patients. CGMs have been proven to reduce A1C levels and increase time spent in range, resulting in improved health and overall well-being. Recent studies show that CGM usage results in an average A1C reduction of 0.82% to 3.7%, depending on the duration of use. By lowering your A1C and striving to spend more time in range, you can experience better health overall.
Lowering your A1C and striving to spend more time in range can be major stressors when living with diabetes, but any time you can lower that A1C and raise your time in range, you will experience better health overall. If you’re struggling with mental health and diabetes, consider reaching out to a mental health professional, and read Anna’s story about her journey with diabetes and mental health.
"It's really nice to be able to see what my blood sugar is at anytime of the day without a finger stick. My finger used to get sore and black and blue," says Karen Seyler. Karen is a Type 2 diabetic and uses a Dexcom G6 to manage her blood sugar.
A: Medicare covers 80% of approved costs for CGMs, meaning you just need to cover the remaining 20%. The out-of-pocket costs will vary depending on your state’s specific Medicare plan and which CGM system you choose. Currently, Medicare covers the Dexcom G6, Dexcom G7, and Freestyle Libre 3 CGM systems.
You can read more about cost on your state’s Medicare guidelines page, or check out this article from GoodRx. You’ll also need to find a pharmacist or supplier who will accept Medicare. To make things easy, you can find one here
TL;DR? If you’re a Type 2 diabetic on Medicare, the recent CGM coverage expansion is great news for you! With the changes in the Medicare policy on CGMs, it’s easier than ever to get a CGM device to help improve your blood glucose management and overall health. If you’re a Type 2 diabetic who uses insulin daily, regularly experiences a low blood sugar of 54mg/dL (also measured as 3 mmol/L), or has visited the hospital due to a low blood sugar level, Medicare may cover 80% of your costs for getting and using a CGM! Be sure to talk to your primary care doctor about your eligibility starting April 16th, 2023.

Hey! I’m Ben, a registered dietitian, certified diabetes educator, and strength coach, who has lived with Type 1 Diabetes for nearly 24 years . Not only am I a HUGE fan of ExpressionMed tape (and more on that in a minute), but I am the founder of Your Diabetes Insider, a dietetics practice that specializes in working with people on achieving incredible blood sugars while eating foods they love and becoming the strongest version of themselves.
There is a ton of overwhelm when it comes to managing blood sugars within the diabetes world. If you go online to look for information on improving blood sugars, you’re hit with a million different opinions that all contradict one another. This can lead to you feeling like it is impossible to truly live your life without any restriction from diabetes. But, I’m here to tell you that it could not be any further from the truth. We live in the BEST time in HISTORY to be able to THRIVE while living with diabetes!
As someone who was diagnosed with T1D at the age of 7, not only have I seen the insane technology advancements through the years, from continuous glucose monitors to smart insulin pumps, but I’ve both personally and professionally seen the way in which we manage diabetes improve for the better in so many ways.
As a kid, going to a restaurant for dinner pretty much guaranteed me a high blood sugar; if not during the meal, certainly hours after eating it. And, while that was frustrating back then, the ability these days to go out, have a great meal, and know EXACTLY how to handle it from a blood sugar perspective - to not only enjoy the food, but also soak in the moment and enjoy the people you’re with? It’s nothing short of incredible.
Instead of ping ponging blood sugars from low to high and back again during exercise or sports, the ability to have a relatively flat blood sugar graph and a gameplan of what to do at different portions of the session has been life changing for so many of Your Diabetes Insider's patients. And, being able to truly remove the power that diabetes can have over our lives in ANY area, from travel, to sick days, to even just being stress-free about possible complications that many doctors try to scare you about, is why we show up every day and do what we do.
My team of registered dietitians and I all live with diabetes, so we get it from both a personal and a professional level (because there’s nothing worse than being chastised by your care team for wanting to eat the fridge when you have a low blood sugar at 2:30am when they don’t get it!). And, we’ve dedicated our lives to YOU, so you can live your life without ANY restrictions imposed by diabetes. You can do what you love with the people you love and live your life to the fullest.
ExpressionMed tape gives you the freedom to do whatever you want with your CGM securely in place, and Your Diabetes Insider gives you freedom with the rest of your life! This is why we fit so well together! This is also why Your Diabetes Insider is giving all ExpressionMed tape users an exclusive discount on working with our team!
If you’re ready to stop sitting on the sidelines, wondering when you’ll FINALLY have your blood sugars in a place where they aren’t taking over your life, apply here to work with us. We can’t wait to serve you and help you achieve what you previously thought to be impossible! Be sure to mention ExpressionMed to receive your exclusive discount!

When Did Dexcom G7 Receive FDA Clearance?
Dexcom announced that the Dexcom G7 received clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on December 8, 2022.
Is Dexcom G7 Available in the United States?
Now that the Dexcom G7 has received FDA clearance, it is expected to be available for purchase in the United States in early 2023.
What's New About Dexcom G7?
The Dexcom G7 is approximately 60 percent smaller than the Dexcom G6. And, unlike the G6, the G7's sensor and transmitter are combined. The Dexcom G7 also has a 30 minute warm-up time, which is significantly shorter than the G6's two hour warm-up time.
The Dexcom G7 also features a redesigned mobile app, which allows users to view past and present glucose readings all in one place.
Is Dexcom G7 More Accurate?
According to the data posted from Dexcom's trials, the Dexcom G7 is more accurate than the G6. The G7’s Mean Absolute Relative Difference (MARD), which is a key metric used to evaluate CGM accuracy, is 8.2% in comparison to the G6's 9% MARD. MARD calculates the average difference between the glucose reading on the CGM with a blood-glucose measurement measured via a blood sample. A lower MARD means better accuracy.
How Long Can You Wear a Dexcom G7?
The Dexcom G7 can be worn for 10 days, plus a 12 hour grace period at the end of the 10 day wear time.
What are you most excited for with the Dexcom G7? Tell us in the comments, and be sure to check out our collection of Dexcom G7 tapes.

ExpressionMed's UnderPatch was designed to help protect your skin from reactions to harsh device adhesives. Read on to learn more about how the UnderPatch works with your devices, how to apply the UnderPatch, and more!
How do I apply the UnderPatch?
Applying the UnderPatch is simple! Put the UnderPatch on your skin where you would like to insert your CGM or pump. Then, insert your device through the patch and secure it with your favorite ExpressionMed tape.
Click a link to view our written or video application instructions.
Will any part of the UnderPatch go into my skin when inserting my device through it?
No, the UnderPatch is designed with material that separates to let the needle pass through without any of the material being pushed into your skin.
Do I have to wear an overlay tape with the UnderPatch?
Since most devices are designed to adhere only to skin, our UnderPatch should be paired with an overlay patch to ensure your device is secure.
Why doesn't ExpressionMed's UnderPatch have an opening for my device?
Our UnderPatch was designed so you can insert the device through the patch. The material separates slightly from the force of the insertion needle to allow it to pass through without leaving any residue on the insertion needle or device. This gives you the best protection possible from your device's adhesive.

Now you can find all of your favorite ExpressionMed designs in the Libre 3 Perfect Fit and the Libre 3 Overpatch. Click here to check them out!
Abbott announced on October 6, 2022, that the FreeStyle Libre 3 is now available at most in-store and mail order pharmacies in the US.
The FreeStyle Libre 3 system is available via the NHS Supply Chain Framework for people with more complex diabetes management needs who require a real-time CGM device.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted clearance to the FreeStyle Libre 3 for use by diabetic patients aged four years and older.
According to Abbott, FreeStyle Libre 3 is now the smallest, thinnest and most discreet sensor available — all at the same affordable price as previous versions of the device — allowing as many people as possible living with diabetes to access and benefit from these significant advancements.
Where FreeStyle Libre 2 is about the size of two U.S. quarters stacked, FreeStyle Libre 3 is smaller, about the size of two U.S. pennies stacked. That size reduction — by more than 70% — makes FreeStyle Libre 3 more environmentally sustainable. It uses 41% less plastic and 43% less carton paper, demonstrating the company's continued commitment to sustainability.
Real-time, minute-by-minute readings are sent directly to the FreeStyle Libre 3 app, available on both iOS and Android, via Bluetooth – unlike the Libre 2, there is no need to manually scan for a glucose reading.
The FreeStyle Libre 3 also comes attached to the applicator and ready to place on your arm, unlike previous versions where the applicator was separate.
Unlike the FreeStyle Libre 2, the FreeStyle Libre 3 system will come ready to work with the app on both iOS and Android. In fact, there will be no separate reader device for this CGM.
Like the FreeStyle Libre 2, the warm-up time for the Libre 3 has remained at 60 minutes.
According to a news release from Abbott, with a 7.9% overall mean absolute relative difference (MARD), the FreeStyle Libre 3 system is the most accurate 14-day continuous glucose monitor (CGM) with readings sent directly to an Android or Apple smartphone every minute.

What is one thing you want people without diabetes to know or a small fact that may not have been mentioned yet? Let’s educate!
Day 7: Most people have no idea of the time, money, and energy that goes into having and dealing with T1D. And most importantly, most people don’t have to pay for their insulin. It’s time to shed some light on this not-so-fun side of the disease. Count up and share your totals!
Day 8: Where do you go to find information that is helpful to you? One of JDRF’s initiatives is to let people know where to go to find support. Let’s spread some helpful resources that we turn to for support!
Day 9: If you don’t have T1D, a juice box, low snack, and glucagon are unusual things to take with you. But, for those of us with T1D, these are MUST-HAVES! What are the most important things you take with you? Open that bag, purse, pocket, and show us!
Day 10: It’s challenge day 10 and it’s time to share with everyone how you participated in all the NDAM challenges! Gather up some clips you filmed for past challenges and show us a highlight reel!
Yes! If you read through the challenge details, you’ll see that we’ve provided instructions that work for everyone. Whether you’ve lived with T1D for 80 years or you are just learning about it today, your voice can help us move #forwardas1 towards more awareness, treatments, and, eventually, cures.
Nope! If you’ve purchased a tape, you’ve already donated to JDRF's mission of moving #forwardas1 towards cures, prevention, and treatment for type 1 diabetes and its complications. We can’t thank you enough!
If only a few challenges are exciting to you, feel free to select your favorites to join.
If you want to participate at the highest level, we challenge you to join all #10DaysforT1D.
We will are so excited to see your videos, and we will be commenting, sharing, and reposting throughout the month!
"The type 1 diabetes community understands the toll this disease takes on daily life. This campaign will inspire our community and others to share their story, educate those around them, and explain the power that research has when it comes to improving lives and eliminating T1D for good. #Forwardas1 celebrates the progress we’ve made, and the progress that’s to come. Looking ahead and looking forward keeps us laser-focused on our goal–to see a world without type 1 diabetes. It also keeps us in the moment and allows us to pause and think about WHAT and WHO this progress is FOR: It’s for more cutting-edge advancements for Camila and for Sam. It’s for our advocacy efforts that drive insulin affordability and choice. It’s for the people in our lives who support and care for us, and it’s for the awareness of a disease that we want others to truly see and understand. For those living with type 1 diabetes and those who love someone with type 1 diabetes, looking Forward is what fuels our vision and mission to cure, prevent and treat type 1 diabetes and its complications – a mission that’s worth fighting for.
